How to Fix a Hal.dll File


1. Start the computer by using your Windows XP or higher CD-ROM. Press any key to boot from the CD.
2. Press 'R' after the setup files are finished loading. You will now enter the Windows Recovery Console.
3. Select the installation to log on to (usually number 1) and press 'Enter.'
4. Login to the Administrator account by typing the password for this account and press 'Enter.'
5. With your CD-ROM is in the 'd' drive, type the following command when you reach the recovery console command prompt:expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32
6. Press 'Y' if you're prompted to overwrite the file.
7. Take out the Windows XP CD. Now type 'Exit' and press 'Enter' to restart your computer.
