How to Replace Browseui.dll After an XPSP3 Install


1. Reboot your computer and hold down the 'F8' key to access the Windows Advanced Options menu.
2. Click on the 'Safe Mode With Command Prompt' option in the menu and then press the 'Enter' button on your keyboard.
3. Choose your Windows XP operating system from the boot menu, and then press your 'Enter' button.
4. Place your XP installation CD into your computer's optical drive. Type 'c:\windows\system32' into the command prompt and then press 'Enter' to open the 'System32' folder.
5. Right-click on the 'Browseui.dll' file and click the 'Rename' option. Type 'ren browseui.dll browseui.older' into the rename filed and press the 'Enter' key. This will define the file so you can tell the difference.
6. Type 'd:' into the command prompt to open your Windows XP install CD. Type 'cd i386' into the command prompt and press 'Enter' to bring up the 'i386' folder.
7. Type 'expand Browseui.dl_ c:\windows\System32\Browseui.dll' into the command prompt and press the 'Enter' button to replace the file.
8. Restart your computer to have the file replaced and get rid of the error.
