How to Fix a Corrupted File Structure

How to Fix a Corrupted File Structure
1. Click 'Start' at the bottom left corner of your screen, then open 'My Computer.' Chose the hard drive you wish to scan for file-structure problems--usually drive C, but it could be any other drive. Once you have selected the drive, right click to open a menu and click the 'Properties' option, the last item on the list. The drive's properties box will open.
2. Select the Tools tab at the top. Under the 'Error-checking' section click 'Check Now....' This will open a small settings box. Click in each of the two white squares to add check marks, then click 'Start.' Click 'Yes' on the box that appears. Your computer is now set to check the file system for errors at the next restart, and if any are found Windows will attempt to fix them.
3. Restart your computer by clicking 'Start,' 'Turn Off Computer' and 'Restart'. During the restart process you will notice the Check Disk application preforming a scan of the file system. If any errors are found the report displayed on the screen will say so. Any errors the Check Disk cannot fix will also be displayed on the screen.
