How to Fix AVI Errors

1. Navigate to the Web page of the media player you are using (such as Windows Media Player, RealPlayer or QuickTime). Select the 'Download' option, then choose 'Codecs' (the exact phrasing may differ slightly, depending on the website you are visiting). Choose the codec that supports 'AVI' (it is listed in the file description), then download the file and install it on the computer.
2. Restart the computer after the codec installation. This ensures the codec is installed. Once the system has restarted, you are able to play and view the AVI files.
3. Import the AVI file from any CD you are attempting to view. Because the file is so large, the file is going to lag and not play smoothly when viewing on a CD (the CD is unable to spin fast enough to keep up with the file transfer). To import the file, click 'Start' and '(My) Computer,' then double-click the CD icon and click and drag the AVI file onto the desktop.
4. Re-download the AVI file (or re-export the file, if you created the file yourself). There may just be a problem with the actual file and obtaining the file again may correct the playback issues you are encountering.

How to Retrieve a Lost .dll File

1.
Run the program that uses the missing .dll file. The error message will list the name of the missing file. Note the name of the file.
2.
Visit DLL_Download.net. DLL-Download.net is a website that archives popular and generic .dll files.
3.
Type the name of the .dll file into the field next to '.DLL,' then click 'Find DLL.'
4.
If the missing .dll file is listed, download the file. If you do not find the correct .dll file, then try DLL-Files.com. The .dll file will be in a .zip archive file, and should not take long to download.
5.
Move the new .dll file into the directory of the missing .dll file. If necessary, use WinZip to extract the .dll file. WinZip is a file compression tool that reduces file size, and is particularly useful in compressing numerous files into one archive.
If you do not remember or know where the .dll file is supposed to go, search the folders for the program the .dll file belongs to and look other .dll files. When programs are installed, their .dll files are typically gathered in one folder. Find the folder with other .dll files and replace the missing .dll file.
