How to Troubleshoot a Msgina.Dll Error


1. Go to another machine with Windows 2000 installed that does not have the error. Insert the floppy disk into the disk drive on the computer.
2. Click the Start button and then select the 'Run' option. Type 'cmd' into the text box and then press the 'Enter' key. This will open a DOS window.
3. Type 'cd..' and press the 'Enter' key to go back one directory. Repeat this step to go to the root of the C drive. Type 'cd\winnt\system32\dllcache' and press the 'Enter' key. Type 'copy msgina.dll a:' and press the 'Enter' key. This will copy the DLL file to the floppy disk.
4. Insert the Windows 2000 Server Disc 1 into the CD drive on the computer with the error. Restart the computer to boot up from the CD. Follow the prompts on the screen to open the Recovery Console.
5. Type 'cd system32' at the command prompt and press the 'Enter' key. Type 'ren msgina.dll mdgina.old' and press the 'Enter' key. Type 'cd dll cache' and press the 'Enter' key. Type 'ren msgina.dll msgina.old' and press the 'Enter' key.
6. Insert the floppy disk into the disk drive if an error message appears.
7. Type 'copy a:\msgina.dll' and press the 'Enter' key. Type 'cd..' and press the 'Enter' key. Type 'copy a:\msgina.dll and press the 'Enter' key. Type 'exit' and press the 'Enter' key.
8. Remove the floppy and the Windows Server Disc 1 from the drives. Restart the computer.
