How to Fix AVI Errors

1. Navigate to the Web page of the media player you are using (such as Windows Media Player, RealPlayer or QuickTime). Select the 'Download' option, then choose 'Codecs' (the exact phrasing may differ slightly, depending on the website you are visiting). Choose the codec that supports 'AVI' (it is listed in the file description), then download the file and install it on the computer.
2. Restart the computer after the codec installation. This ensures the codec is installed. Once the system has restarted, you are able to play and view the AVI files.
3. Import the AVI file from any CD you are attempting to view. Because the file is so large, the file is going to lag and not play smoothly when viewing on a CD (the CD is unable to spin fast enough to keep up with the file transfer). To import the file, click 'Start' and '(My) Computer,' then double-click the CD icon and click and drag the AVI file onto the desktop.
4. Re-download the AVI file (or re-export the file, if you created the file yourself). There may just be a problem with the actual file and obtaining the file again may correct the playback issues you are encountering.
