How to Fix a DLL in XP

1. Open the program that prompts the error message and write down the .dll file it states is missing.
2. Open your Internet browser and navigate to the DLL-Files website (see Resources). This is a database of DLL files.
3. Search for the file you need, using the search window in the middle of the webpage. You can either type in the exact name and click 'Search,' or find the name in an alphabetically-sorted list.
4. Click the download link when you find the file. Wait for it to download to your computer.
5. Right-click the file and choose 'Extract.' The Windows XP extraction wizard loads. Follow the prompts to unzip the file.
6. Click 'Start,' 'My Computer,' 'C:.' Select 'Windows' and 'System32.' This is where DLL files are stored. Drag the file into the open window. The file now automatically installs on the computer in its proper location, correcting your DLL problem.
