If you're using the 32-bit version of XP or Vista, the system folder is located at C:\Windows\System32. In 64-bit versions of XP or Vista, it's located at C:\Windows\SysWOW64. For Windows 2000 and NT, it's located at C:\WINNT\System32. For versions 95, 98 and ME, it's located at C:\Windows\System.
2. Left-click once on the system folder in the left panel to reveal its contents in the right panel. Browse through the right panel until you locate advrcntr2.dll, then right-click the file and select Delete from the pop-up options. This will remove the file to the Recycle Bin, but you still need to unregister it.
3. Left-click the Start button in Windows and select Run from the Start Menu. In the Run window, type 'cmd' (without quotes) and click the Run button to open the command prompt.
4. Type 'regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\System32\advrcntr2.dll' (without quotes) in the command prompt if you are using the 32-bit version of XP or Vista. If you're using a different Windows version, replace the 'C:\Windows\System32' part of the file path with the appropriate file path for your version. Just refer to the file paths listed in the first step if you need to change this for your version. Press Enter after you've typed this line to unregister the file, which completes the removal process.
